Operating Season Update

A pre-season team training session.

The team is deep in preparation for the upcoming 2022-23 operating season—our 18th!

We closed the 2021-22 season noting our growing project totals since 2005:

  • Drilled 571 new wells

  • Rehabilitated 321 older wells

  • Conducted 678 village hygiene trainings

Our plans, and partnerships, continue to grow, and we eagerly anticipate bringing access to clean water, hygiene, and sanitation to thousands more people in South Sudan this year.

This season, WFSS will continue to implement critical WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) projects, including:

  • Drilling 32 new wells, each serving 600-800 people

  • Constructing 2 community water storage systems (serving 4,000-6,000 people)

  • Rehabbing 50-60 older wells

  • Providing hygiene training in 84-94 communities.

In addition to these projects, WFSS is excited to continue our collaborations with international nonprofit partners including UNICEF, The Carter Center, and NCA (Norwegian Church Aid). Work with these partners will include drilling new wells, rehabbing existing wells, providing hygiene education, water management and pump mechanic training, and delivering hygiene, sanitation, and nonfood items. Together we are stronger, partnering with other organizations in South Sudan to address critical humanitarian needs.

Our growth in visibility in South Sudan is a testament to our leadership team, including Country Director Ajang Agok and Senior Strategy Director and Founder Salva Dut.

We look forward to serving even more people this year with the most basic need—clean water.
