The ongoing dispute between South Sudan and Sudan over oil has continued to be a volatile issue. Much of the oil in the region lies within landlocked South Sudan.
The only current pipeline and refineries lie in Sudan. With the independence of South Sudan, the oil sharing revenue agreement from the pre-independence era is no longer working.
