Iron Giraffe Challenge

Children around the world helping the children of South Sudan

Help Salva & WFSS raise funds toward a new drilling rig!

Water for South Sudan drills water wells in South Sudan, the world's newest nation. As of May 2016, we have drilled 282 wells, serving hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese. The difficulty of drilling wells in the remote villages of South Sudan is that in many places there are no roads – sometimes even dirt roads do not exist. This puts a tremendous strain on our vehicles, causing frequent breakdowns. Our drilling rig—the Iron Giraffe— is about eight years old and on its last legs. In order to continue our work, it is critical that we buy a new Iron Giraffe at a cost of about $500,000.

Pledge Sheets must be in by February 15, 2017 and all funds must be donated online or postmarked by
March 31, 2017 in order to be eligible for this year's Iron Giraffe Challenge prizes.

2016-17 IGC Prizes

Salva Dut, WFSS Founder and Senior Advisor, has issued a new Iron Giraffe Challenge. Salva hopes that schools will help us get our new Iron Giraffe by each raising a minimum of $1,000 this year.  Each school that completes the challenge, raising at least $1,000 by March 31, 2017, will get one entry in the Iron Giraffe Challenge drawing for the following prizes:

  • First Prize: A visit to your school with Salva Dut*
  • Second Prizes: A 20-minute Skype call with Salva Dut (3 prizes awarded)*
  • Third Prizes: A 20-minute Skype call with Linda Sue Park (3 prizes awarded)*
  • NEW THIS YEAR! SUPER SCHOOL AWARD: Skype call with Salva for school raising the most funds between August 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017!

*Visits and Skype calls subject to Salva Dut and Linda Sue Park's availability which will require flexibility given Salva's South Sudan location and Linda Sue's schedule. We will make every effort to provide a Skype call if an in-person visit is not possible. Each school will be eligible for only one visit or Skype call with Salva.
